The 24th Annual Conference of the Australian and New Zealand Society of International Law (ANZSIL) will take place from Thursday 30 June 2016 to Saturday 2 July 2016 at University House, Australian National University, Canberra, Australia.

 

Prior to the main Conference we are also holding a Postgraduate Research Students workshop on Wednesday 29 June at 9am in the Garran Room, Innovations Building 124, a short walk from University House.  Participants are welcome to drop into the workshop if they are free - please see the Postgrad Research Students Program. 

 

ANZSIL Conference Program

The Conference theme is 'International Law of the Everyday: Fieldwork, Friction and Fairness'.  In addition to a wide range of panels on topics reflecting this theme, the Conference program will feature internationally renowned keynote speakers including:

Kirby Lecture in International Law

The annual Kirby Lecture in International Law will be hosted by the ANU Centre for International and Public Law at the Finkel Theatre in the John Curtin School of Medical Research at the Australian National University, on Thursday 30 June 2016 at 6:30 -7:30pm (refreshments will be served from 6 to 6:30pm).

The 2016 Lecture will be delivered by Commonwealth Solicitor-General Justin Gleeson SC, on the topic 'Australia's Increasing Enmeshment in International Law Dispute Resolution'.  

The Kirby lecture is free but registration is requested (closes 28 June 2016).

Conference dinner

The Conference dinner will be held at the The Lobby on Friday 1 July 2016, and will include a three-course meal and drinks package, after-dinner speaker, and ANZSIL trivia. Tickets for the dinner (which have been subsidised by ANZSIL) can be purchased for $85. Since the venue can accommodate a maximum of 130 people, tickets will be available on a first come-first served basis until this limit is reached, so don't delay!

Carbon offset option

This year we are also pleased to offer a carbon offset option, which will be remitted to Greening Australia to assist with restoring landscapes, sequestering carbon, and protecting biodiversity in Greening Australia's many projects, including in the ACT.

Accommodation

A number of rooms have been reserved at University House, ANU, for ANZSIL conference participants. These rooms will be available for booking on a first-come first-served basis. We have also secured a discounted rate for accommodation at the nearby QT Canberra hotel. Details about how to make bookings at University House and QT Canberra can be found here.
