Teaching International Law in Times of Crisis
La Trobe University City Campus, Melbourne, 2 July 2024
Call for Panellists and Participants
ANZSIL and the La Trobe International and Comparative Law Research Cluster will host an ANZSIL International Law Teaching Workshop on Tuesday 2 July 2024 (2.30PM-4.30PM) (the day before the ANZSIL conference begins). The workshop will be an opportunity for participants to discuss our role and work as teachers of international law. The theme for this year’s workshop connects to the conference theme and focusses on ‘Teaching International Law in Times of Crisis’.
Focus of the Workshop
The workshop will provide participants with an opportunity to discuss and share their experiences of teaching international law subjects that touch on or focus on crises. In particular we hope to explore:
Format of the Workshop
The workshop will involve two sessions which will each run for 55 minutes. In each session, a chair will ask four panellists a series of questions around teaching international law in times of crisis before the floor is opened up for other attendees to ask questions or provide comments on the topics raised. The aim is to have a free flowing, vibrant conversation across the course of the two-hour session. There will be a chance to catch up over refreshments at the conclusion of the workshop.
The workshop is designed to be in person. However, if you cannot come to Melbourne, please contact Anna and Madelaine for zoom details. Please note that panellists will need to be at the workshop in person.
Timing and Location of the Workshop
Date: Tuesday 2 July 2024
Time: 2.30P-4.30PM (followed by refreshments)
Location: La Trobe University, City Campus
Cost

Call for Panellists and General Participants
If you would be interested in being a panellist at the workshop, please register your interest here. You will be asked to provide a short statement (no more than 300 words) setting out the international law subjects you have taught and any particular issues you would like to discuss regarding the teaching of international law in times of crisis. Please note that you will not be required to prepare a paper/presentation for the workshop. Instead you will have the opportunity to respond to questions posed by the chair and audience.
The Call for Panellists has now closed. We will finalise the panellists by the end of March. We will aim to ensure the panellists come from a diversity of institutions, stages of career and backgrounds, and have a range of different ideas about teaching international law in times of crisis.
International law teachers who would like to attend the teaching workshop as a general participant, will be able to register for the workshop when the conference registration process opens on the ANZSIL website.
